I have been fortunate to have had a front-row seat to witness my co-founders Tapasi, Jayal and Divya, gracefully demolish all prevailing negative stereotypes about women co-founders. They have confidently led and navigated their spheres of responsibility impeccably, while also balancing their family lives. As you can see from the above graph, women entrepreneurs have been underrepresented in Indian startups for a very long time. This number has been steadily growing and in 2021 it went up to 20%. We’ve come a long way from 2015 and this is very positive growth but we still have a long way to go.
I do have the privilege of being part of a team that has Jayal, Tapasi & Divya as co-founders. And I have known each of them for many years before we became co-founders and recognize them as exceptional colleagues and people. Each one of them is a strong individual with absolute clarity of thought on how to lead Mentza, what values to build it with, and what culture the company promotes. You would have experienced that first hand in Mentza, be it in the welcoming nature of a Mentza Circle or the strength of the member community at Mentza. There was never a strategy to bring in women founders or anything like that. The best of the best came together to build Mentza. Just happens to be 3-3.
